Out trip to south Mississippi was busy with two side trips. One to Arkansas and one to Oklahoma ...

Side trip to Benton Arkansas: We got to Waveland. Mississippi on April 1, 2017. On April 3, 2017 we drove to Benton, AR to be with Jenell while Dow had surgery on his heart. On April 6, 2017 we drove back to Mississippi (about an 8 hour drive).

Side trip to Oklahoma:

We Met Nick at Waterford Nuclear Plant in Killona, Louisiana  and flew to Little Rock. Drove to London then to Round Four Indian Nations Enduro April 22rd at Scipio, OK. And then April 23th Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association at Henryetta, OK. We flew back to Mississippi along with Nick on Monday, the 24th.

Visitor Center Waterford Nuclear Plant. Had really cool models of the nuclear plant with displays of a PWR fuel assembly (also known as a fuel bundle) without the fuel pellets and a complete simulated control room for training.

The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies had touch pools and was very informative. We watched a dolphin and sea lion show. Gulport is building a new rather large Aquarium to be finished in 2019, which we would love to come back and see. We plan on making a trip once a year to clear our lot.

The Crosby Arboretum, Picayune, MS: This was a very nice trail displaying plants native to the Pearl River Drainage Basin ecosystem. There is a lovely pavilion called Pinecote Pavilion which is worth seeing. It was designed by Fay Jones, famous architect from Fayetteville, AR, who designed Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, AR.

We also went by The Biloxi Lighthouse .

We visited the Bay Saint Louis Train Depot and Mardi Gras Museum and the Alice Moseley Museum, displaying numerous painting by this artist.

Visited City Hall in Pass Christian to check on lot restrictions and building codes. Visited the libary there, which is connected to City Hall, and attended a 2 hour beginner birding seminar. We now try to identify birds as we see them but we are not very good at it yet.

Visited Watters Architecture to talk about getting plans drawn for tiny house. Still considering .

Had lot bushhogged and had signs made to put on property to sell. Would love to have a house built but not in our plans at the moment.

Mostly we had fun watching the woodpeckers, blue jays, and bunny rabbits at our camp site. One woodpecker in particular had built a nest and was very entertaining.

Our longest trip so far was for a month at South Padre Island, Texas. Also we went to Port Isabel where we found a church to attend. We were a little disappointed as the light house was under construction and was closed to the public. The weather was good except for a few days when the visibility was low and a couple of really cool days. The day before we left was absolutely beautiful. We got to see a lot of attractions and visited some shops. We found a shop in particular we really liked it was Whiskers Resale Shop.Went on the beach and found a lot of shells. Charlie went with one of our neighbors fishing. Watched kites flying and parasailing. The island provided free bus rides on the island and to Port Isabel. Wish we had taken our jeep because it is legal to drive on the beach and that is why a lot of people go there instead of Florida we were told. Many of our neighbors are from Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Canada but come down here and become winter Texans, meaning they stay there 6 months out of the year.

The live Raptor show was fantastic. Over 3300 linear feet of bay-view boardwalks and paths that meander through 43 acres of freshwater ponds, island scrub brush, brackish and saltwater marshes.Five bird blinds set in the wetlands for great viewing. If you are going to visit this center be sure and go during the winter outdoor & wildlife expo. No extra charge for the live raptor show, conference and exhibits. Could take up to 2 days to see all of it.The live raptor show is presented by Dr. Jonathon Wood and his wife. It is very entertaining and educational. Took a cruise up the Brownville Ship Channel to see where they decommission warships. One of the projects they were working on was the aircraft carrier Saratoga. This was a 4 hour cruise and included all you could eat shrimp dinner. On the way up and back dolphins caught a ride with us at the bough  of the ship. They apparently like the speed. We road the motorcycle to Boca Chica beach, Rio Grande River, and the Mexico fence,  and on the way back we stopped at Sabal Palm Sanctuary with the Historic Rabb Plantation House. We got to see the Rio Grande River. Would have stayed longer because there was over 4 miles of trails we could have followed but it was very hot that day. Saw lots of Green Jays and Chachalacas.
